"We met at 1:00; everyone brought in beautiful food to share, and we had a feast! We then “attempted” to make a “simple scarf.” Well, let me tell you, either the engineers and bankers couldn’t dumb down, or the directions were just not “simple." We had three ladies, Heather Brooks, Vicki Bors, and Jan Fritsche, who had knitted before, so their scarfs got off to a good start. Good job ladies. The rest all voted to just give them to Ms. Jeannette to make our scarves for us. I have to say, Dana Griggs, Misty Kenworthy, Ann Trausch, Mercedes Spratt and me... we are the “Little Yellow Bus Girls” when it comes to a hand-to-brain crafts! Bless Our Hearts! Then, of course, we had Dana that just quit... she rode her mare, GAB NILE ROSE, past the front door of the barn thumbing her nose at us. It was hysterical!"
After lunch, Wanda led the group out to see a new Lady Sexton / Scapa colt who was born the day before. Heather Harness, midwife at Paradise, explained in detail to the ladies what to look for when your mare is due, what to have in your foaling kit, and how to care for a newborn baby. Those who were interested then had an opportunity to play, brush, and ride, and the others went back inside to visit with one another over food and wine. "Eventually, everyone came in, including our sweet husbands (the ones that came with their wives), and we did our wine night as we do every Saturdy night."
As the night wound down and the Paradise barn staff was leaving, the guests were informed that Ms. Jeannette’s Dianaah, bred to Scapa, was going to have her baby! "Of course, Heather was right back to birth the foal. Dana, Patti Fogarty and Nancy Korekach all stayed with Ms. Jeannette waiting for new baby to enter the world. I went to bed, but I bet my life there wasn’t a bit of food or wine left down at the barn." The next morning, Wanda received word that Ms. Jeannette got a beautiful, grey FILLY! "A big congratulations to Dianaah for her hard work."
ATTENTION ALL LADIES: You are invited to the next gathering of "Southern Ladies Up To Something," aka "Women & Horses," on Saturday, March 9th at 1:00pm at Paradise Arabians! Bring something to put on the table to share for lunch. There will be a craft, and the speaker will be Penny Carpenter, CPA, from the Morehouse Firm explaining tax advantages and laws for horse ownership. "So many ladies are afraid to ask questions in their office, so “Southern Ladies” has asked them to come to our part of the world so we don’t have to be shy. Ladies learning from ladies," muses Wanda. After lunch, the group will move outside to learn hands on “How to Breed Your Mare”. This event is FREE to all women that love horses. Guests at Paradise are welcome to spend the night and return on Sunday. Wanda says to just call it a "girls weekend!"
