Friday, October 12, 2012

12:30 p.m. Registration

1:00 p.m. Welcome and Introductions

1:30 p.m. The Desert Tradition: Reality and Romance

Presenter: Cynthia Culbertson

A look at the origin of important traits valued by early Breeders of the desert bred Arabian horse. Which were real and which are myth? And how those traits have influenced the evolution of that horse into our modern Egyptian Arabian.

2:30 p.m. The Making of Standards: A Model from The Pyramid Society

Presenters: Lisa Lacy and Becky Rogers

The Pyramid Society is committed to creating and maintaining excellence in Straight Egyptian horses. The development of Standards of Excellence was identified in its Strategic Plan as an essential element for the future of the breed. The process by which standards were developed and the areas of unique importance to breeders of Straight Egyptian horses will be discussed by two of those most deeply involved in their composition.

3:30 p.m. Break

3:45 p.m. Standards: “Out from the Tent”

Presenter: Emma Maxwell

A look at an important part of the Standard for Egyptian Arabian Horses – Character. A frank discussion about the role played by environment, training and genetics in shaping the character of our horses today vs. those same roles in the hands of the Bedouin. Emma Maxwell will present her viewpoint as a lifelong Horsewoman, Breeder, Trainer, Photographer and Judge.

5:00 p.m. Dinner

7:00 p.m. Standards: Application Breeding Programs – “In The Eye of the Beholder”

Presenters: Judith Forbis - Ansata and Becky Rogers - Kehilan Arabians

A discussion about developing a unique vision for a Breeding Program. Each breeder has chosen to utilize some of the same foundation horse(s) in entirely different directions which created very different examples of modern bloodstock. All quality representatives of the Egyptian Arabian Horse and adhering to the Standard of Excellence but reflective of a variance acceptable within parameters of that Standard.

8:00 a.m. Introduction and Overview

8:15 a.m. Breeding Standards – “Size Matters or Not!”

Presenters: Louise DeRusseau and Bridgette Orwig

The challenges faced by “Limited Number Breeders” are often daunting. Applying a Standard of Excellence within a small by number gene pool requires different tools. Two Breeders who average 5 or less foals a year with successful long term programs share their strategies. The similarities and yet the different paths each have taken to this success are explored.

9:30 a.m. Break

9:45 a.m. “Say that again, please”

Throughout the conference, attendees will be invited to submit questions for presenters to address in this closing session – points left incomplete, issues that call for more attention. A moderator will facilitate the discussion among the presenters and all attendees.
