THE 2006
EGYPTIAN EVENT
JUNE 5 – 10, 2006 * THE KENTUCKY HORSE PARK
Join us in June! Beginning on June
5th and continuing through June 10th, the Egyptian Event will draw
visitors from all over the world to the Kentucky Horse
Park in
Lexington, Kentucky. Presented by The Pyramid Society, the 37
year-old organization devoted to the preservation, perpetuation, and
promotion of the Egyptian Arabian horse, the 2006 schedule includes
an unforgettable variety of activities that will appeal to the
entire family.
In celebration of the Event’s
26th annual occurrence, plans are in the works for several new (and
revisited) activities! From the return of the highly competitive
“Road Apple Rumble” and hilarious “Donkey Races” to the new “Jewels
of the Nile” Private Treaty Sale, visitors will be entertained from
start to finish. Fitting right in with this year’s festive
atmosphere, the appropriately themed Gala and Art Auction, “Puttin’
on the Ritz”, scheduled for Friday, June 9th, will feature an
enhanced format guaranteed to leave attendees with sides sore from.
Other social opportunities will include the Welcome Breakfast held
at the elegant Spindletop Hall on Tuesday mornin g, sponsored by John
and Linda Dowling of Sahara Spirit Arabians, Bosque Farms, NM, which
is complimentary for all newcomers and international visitors; and
the Stallion Showcase and Social on Wednesday evening. Thursday
afternoon will also be left open for a preview of sale horses as
well as any social gatherings or parties hosted by attending
members.
The Egyptian Event is truly a
celebration of the Egyptian Arabian Horse, and to honor this
tradition, the week will be packed with competitive classes,
breath-taking presentations, and the opportunity to get close to
these horses away from the show ring. The Pyramid Challenge
Endurance Ride, which offers two distances – 25 miles and 50 miles,
will take place on Saturday morning beginning at 6:00 a.m. Are you
interested in trying endurance, but not 25 miles? Join the 10-mile
fun ride, which will happen on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
The 2006 schedule is also jam
packed with useful seminars and clinics. This year’s topics will
include everything from Natural Horsemanship to mare owner breeding
tips and care of geriatric horses, to advice on naming your Arabian
horse. And Joe Ferris will be on hand to discuss the progression of
bloodlines from the stock of Prince Mohammed Ali to present day
America. Ever wondered exactly what all your Egyptian Arabian is
capable of? Then don’t miss Monday morning’s clinic, “Everything You
Can Do With Your Egyptian Arabian Horse”. Several well-known
industry horsemen will be on hand to demonstrate the versatility of
the Egyptian Arabian Horse.
The 2006 Egyptian Event will
offer something for everyone. From excitement in the show ring to
beautiful buys in the shopping promenade, and interesting seminars
to fun social gatherings, the Event affords members and enthusiasts
alike the opportunity to network, learn, and celebrate the Egyptian
Arabian horse! For complete details on the 2006 Event, scroll down

A
Note Regarding 2006 Egyptian Event Classes
With the
ongoing vision of keeping the Egyptian Event “unlike any other horse
show”, the board earlier began assessing the schedule in order to
guarantee the Event remained just that – “An Event”. Thus in the
January 2002 “Chariot” the announcement was made that going forward
Egyptian Event classes would be eliminated when there were 5 or
fewer horses in individual halter or performance classes for two
consecutive years, excluding any futurities or extended specialty
breeding classes. Realistically, however, this proved difficult to
implement as long as the Performance Pyramid was in existence.
Despite repeated efforts and numerous individual sponsorships,
exhibitor support continued to decline in the Performance Pyramid.
In 2005 there were only two registered participants. The time had
come to make some adjustments. Using the board’s earlier directive
and Event class participation charts as their guide, the Show
Committee began exploring all avenues for fine-tuning the Event
schedule in order to remain true to the vision of providing more - a
more refined schedule with more horses in each class, more
educational opportunities, more marketing opportunities, more “down”
time and more social opportunities. Bottom line, the realization
that holding 100+ classes for a show that averages 330+- horses was
not effective or prudent. Thus, in 2006 you will see a very workable
schedule that continues to feature both halter and performance
classes (excluding Dressage/see below). The 2006 schedule will be
posted on the website later this month and will be included as part
of the Event mailing. |

Dressage at the 2006 Egyptian Event
At the 2005
Egyptian Event the Dressage Division had a total of twelve entries
in the entire division. Some classes were cancelled, as there were
no entries, while others had only one or two entries.
While I have
always been a strong proponent of performance classes at the Event,
and dressage classes in particular, it became obvious that without
the support of exhibitors willing to show in these classes The
Pyramid Society could not continue to hold them.
I feel that the
Society has made every effort to accommodate those of us that wanted
to show our dressage horses at the Event. The expense, however, has
become prohibitive for a non-profit organization that must utilize
available funds for the benefit of the majority of its members.
Regretfully,
therefore, I must announce that the Dressage Division will not be
held at this year’s Event.
On a more
positive note, it is possible that this division could be
re-instated in 2007 if a sponsor could be found and dressage
exhibitors would be willing to support it.
