SYNDICATE PURCHASE BRONZE IN A FIRST FOR
THE EGYPTIAN EVENT ART AUCTION
An important fundraiser for The Pyramid
Society, the Annual Dinner Dance and Art Auction takes place during
the Egyptian Event in Lexington, Kentucky held the first week each
June. Celebrated artists around the globe generously donate their
work for this prestigious auction which features only a few select
pieces each year. The bidding to own one of these treasures is
always intense and this year’s auction was no exception.
On June 6, 2008, for the first time in over 25 years of
the annual auction, a syndicate was formed to purchase the eagerly
anticipated first lot consisting of a pair of bronze sculptures by
world-renowned artist Karen Kasper. Depicting the legendary Arabian
sires *Ansata Ibn Halima and Ansata Halim Shah, the busts were
created as part of a year-long celebration of the 50th
Anniversary of Ansata Arabian Stud, owned by Judith and Donald
Forbis.
“While the Ansata horses are cherished throughout the
world,” explains Mauri Chase of Chase Arabians, “all of us in the
Syndicate are committed to preserving the Ansata legacy here in the
United States, and what better way to commemorate our dedication
than to share these bronzes of their most influential stallions.”
The sculptures, representing the single edition offered in a
life-like white patina, will travel from coast to coast as the
syndicate members share the artwork. The group believes the
Syndicate is just one example of the wonderful camaraderie and
lasting friendships that develop through a love of the straight
Egyptian Arabian.
The “Sharing the Dream” Syndicate members would like to
express their gratitude to Judi and Don Forbis for their vision and
dedication to the classic Arabian horse and to Karen Kasper for
capturing the essence of these two celebrated stallions. Syndicate
members include long-time Ansata Breeding Manager, Yvette Van Natta
of Mena, Arkansas, Leslie Nord of Royal Shahara Arabians in Spokane,
Washington, Debbie Cooper of Ashton Arabians in Waco, Texas, Lisa
Zukowski of Highview Egyptian Stud in Trenton, South Carolina,
Norman Davis of Lionsgate Egyptian Stud in Chesterfield, Virginia,
Majid Alsayegh of Al Majid Arabians in Douglassville, Pennsylvania,
Pat Trusty of Heartfelt Egyptian Arabians in Oak Point, Texas, Mauri
Chase of Chase Arabians, Aubrey, Texas and Cynthia Culbertson of El
Miladi Arabian Stud, Carrizozo, New Mexico. |

KENTUCKY HORSE PARK'S MUSEUM BREAKS GROUND ON ARABIAN ADDITION
April marked the
groundbreaking for an 8,000 square foot expansion of the
International Museum of the Horse located at the Kentucky Horse
Park, Lexington, KY. The project, funded totally by the Trust and
the American Arabian horse community, will be the first major
addition to the 52,000 square foot museum since its opening in 1978,
and will expand its permanent exhibition space by nearly 30 percent.
As part of the donation, the museum will also receive the
outstanding collection of arts, artifacts and library and archival
material from the Arabian Horse Trust and an equally significant
collection of art and artifacts from the Arabian Horse Owners
Foundation. Bob Fauls, Board Member of The Purebred Arabian Horse
Trust, current Pyramid Society Trustee and former President of The
Pyramid Society and Anna Bishop, Executive Director of The Pyramid
Society attended this historical event on April 7, 2008.
“With
all of the incredible things that have happened at the park over the
past few years, this has to rank as one of the most significant.
This wonderful donation undoubtedly solidifies the park’s
International Museum of the Horse as the finest equestrian museum in
the world. We are indeed grateful to the Arabian horse community for
this extraordinary and historic undertaking,” said John Nicholson,
executive director of the Kentucky Horse Park. “The International
Museum of the Horse is an integral part of this park and a
cornerstone of our educational mission. We are privileged and
honored to be the vehicle through which the magnificent stories of
the horse in the Near East and the Arabian horse can be shared with
our many visitors.”
As an added attraction, from June first through the Alltech FEI
World Equestrian Games in 2010, a special exhibit, A Gift from
the Desert: The Art, History and Culture of the Arabian Horse
will be featured in the museum’s changing galleries. Following the
museum’s previous international exhibitions, Imperial China
and All the Queen’s Horses, A Gift from the Desert will be
the most comprehensive exploration ever of the significance of the
horse, and particularly the Arabian horse, on Near Eastern cultures
ever.
For more information on the construction of the Arabian horse
addition to the museum visit
www.kyhorsepark.com or to view the architectural rendering of
the museum expansion email Cindy Rullman at

EMBRYO
TRANSFER POLICY
In an effort to maintain the integrity of
both the EBC and Futurity programs, The Pyramid Society will be
instituting the following innovative Embryo Transfer Policy. This
policy will require specific identifying factors for ET foals and
will be effective with the Futurity nominations for 2009 foals.

EMBRYO/OOCYTE TRANSFER REQUIREMENTS
FOR
PARTICIPATION IN THE EBC AND FUTURITY
Guidelines to be incorporated into the Futurity
package for nominations of 2009 foals:
·
A required Embryo / Oocyte Transfer (ET) Foal
Nomination form containing detailed information regarding the
harvest and implantation to be signed by the foal owner and
veterinarian. (Form will be provided) To be submitted accompanied by
a copy of the sales receipt from the vet’s office noting the ET
procedure.
·
Transfer must take place in accordance with AHA Rules.
(See References Below)
·
USEF Rules pertaining to entries will be enforced.
(See References Below)
·
If one ET foal is nominated into the Futurity/EBC then
the remaining foals from that set of embryos must be nominated into
the futurity as well.
·
Foaling Declaration form, accompanied by Horse
Identification / Markings page (Both forms will be provided)
required within 7 days of foaling and signed by veterinarian and
foal owner.
·
A Change of Color form is required when applicable to
assure identification records remain accurate.
·
Horses to be subject to inspection prior to entering
the ring to confirm identity.

be eligible for registration under Article 1001., if the following
requirements are met:

of the embryo/oocyte transfer, and may also be subject to the
penalties provided by Article 1038.

2008 TEVIS CUP RIDE UPDATE

The Pyramid Society offers continued support to the Straight
Egyptian horses competing in the annual Western States Trail Ride,
commonly known as the Tevis Cup Ride. Tevis Cup is the longest
lasting competitive endurance ride, held annually since 1955. The
2008 Tevis Cup Ride occurs on July 18 and covers 100 grueling miles
of altitudes ranging from 800 feet to 8,000 feet. Almost 50% of
winning Tevis Cup horses are Arabians and the presence of Straight
Egyptian horses and supporters continue to grow every year. Pyramid
Society board member Jari Drassel has volunteered for the 2008 ride,
as well as member Kelly Gobla-Hughes. The Tevis Cup looks forward to
future teams riding under a Pyramid Society flag. Competing in an
endurance ride takes upwards of one to two years of preparation, so
begin thinking about 2009 and 2010 rides! Also, keep in mind that
Heidi Vanderbilt will be speaking at the 2008 Egyptian Event and
will discuss all aspects of distance and endurance riding. If you
have further questions about the Tevis Cup Ride and to receive a
packet with information and stories about the Tevis, please contact
Susan Watson at mistil2@aol.com.
