So much so that we have been asked to do a repeat! The Working Horse Demonstration and Clinic, put on by Larry Westmoreland and Lisa Abraham, in early May, was an excellent starter course into this exciting world. The clinic was held at the West Wind Training Center, in Tickfaw, LA and featured the very accomplished national champion, SE Stallion Amiin+// and his 5 year old, up and coming son, Ektibar. As a side note, Ektibar won his class at this years Egyptian Event with owner/handler Victoria Broussard--huge congratulations!!

Straight Egyptian breeders came from all over the south to attend and no one left disappointed. The clinic started with an introduction to the horses of West Wind and their bloodlines. Amiin+// and his get, of course, were the star attractions. The clinic then officially began with some classroom time followed by demonstrations.

Larry's demonstration consisted of taking different horses at various levels of training to illustrate the process of learning this competitive sport. He started with a horse who entered the ring with cows for the first time.  It was a fascinating experience to see this young mare pick up on what was expected of her. Then each horse there after had a bit more training in this type of work, till we were then offered a demonstration by Amiin+// himself.

As one of the organizers and as a participant of this clinic, I would like to take this opportunity to make a special thanks to Amiin+//'s owner, Summer Bergeron. First off, thank you for sharing Amiin+//. Not only was this magnificent stallion the star of the show, he took each and every one of us for a ride--how's that for a gentleman! Second, thank you for being the kind of Egyptian Arabian owner in which I would like to aspire. We all love our horses, but you have put your money where your mouth is and made your boy a perfomance champion. You have invested deeply in proving the athletic ability of our Egyptians--and I for one, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

The next clinic is scheduled for Sept 4 & 5, of 2010, again in Tickfaw, LA. In this next clinic, Larry is going to dig deeper into the world of the working cow horse. There will be a fee of $100 per person.
