Press Release

Egyptian Event Amateur Award Announced for 2010

Amateur classes have become increasingly popular in the Arabian show ring over the past several years. At the Egyptian Event, as well, amateur classes have had a greater prominence year by year.  In recognition of the important role of amateur classes and amateur handlers at the Egyptian Event, the Wisconsin Egyptian Arabian Horse Alliance offers an annual award for the High Point Amateur.

First offered in 2008, the Award is presented annually to the high-point amateur for the Egyptian Event.  Riders and handlers are entered automatically for all amateur classes.  Points are assigned for places 1-10.  Individuals showing in "open" classes are eligible for the award, as well, upon registration with the Show Secretary. Open class points are assigned with preferential weighting. The winner of the award in two successive prior years will be considered only after a year's "vacation" from competition.

The Wisconsin Egyptian Arabian Horse Alliance (WEAHA) is a regional organization of breeders with a history of support for the Egyptian Arabian horse.  In announcing the continuation of this award, WEAHA President Kent Mayfield noted, "Wisconsin has been home to some of the most distinguished Egyptian Arabians of all time - *Farazdac, *El Mareekh, *Tuhotmos, *Akmar and Nabiel to name just a few.   Wisconsin breeders, too, have long been prominent at the Egyptian Event.  Professional and amateur handlers and riders from Wisconsin have been notably successful.  WEAHA is proud to support amateurs in competition at the 2010 Egyptian Event."

The High Point Amateur will receive a custom-embroidered jacket and a certificate celebrating the handler's accomplishment at the 2010 Egyptian Event.  The public award will be made on the closing day of the Egyptian Event.
