2010 National Breeders' Conference
"Back to the Future: Models for Egyptian Arabian Breeding"
September 17-19, 2010
Atlanta, Georgia
A massive success on its 1985 release, BACK TO THE FUTURE, has since become a bona fide classic - Robert Zemeckis's time-travel adventure has spawned sequels, theme park rides, and even a mention in Ronald Reagan's 1986 State of the Union Address. In its original packaging, the breakaway hit was a joyous comedy with a captivating hook: What would it be like to meet your parents in their youth? Now, as the theme for the 2010 National Breeders' Conference, BACK TO THE FUTURE takes on new meaning and asks other questions important for contemporary breeders of Egyptian Arabian horses: How far back do we reach in making today's breeding decisions? How far forward do the ancient traditions of the desert stretch in shaping the future of our treasured horses? Opening on September 17 at Atlanta's (GA) Westin Hotel, BACK TO THE FUTURE 2010 is produced by The Pyramid Society in tandem with The Pyramid Foundation, Inc., as part of its ongoing series of acclaimed educational programs. The cast is dazzling! Hans-Joachim Nagel, prominent World Arabian Horse Organization (WAHO) President, influential Arabian horse connoisseur and outstanding breeder, Judith Forbis, the first woman recipient of the Galbreath Award for Outstanding Entrepreneurship in the Equine Industry, jockey, historian, respected author and judge, Omar Sakr, distinguished breeder of global influence, whose passion, imagination and dedication have energized breeding in Egypt for decades; Edouard al-Dahdah, brilliant younger scholar whose blog, Daughter of the Wind (www.daughterofthewind.org), is major new resource for students of desert Arabian horses, their homeland and their heritage, Joe Ferriss, for nearly 4 decades, a respected analyst, author and historian of the Arabian herd, and Ernest Bailey, key architect of the Horse Genome Project, a global research effort, professor at the University of Kentucky's Gluck Equine Research Center and talented teacher of genetics-for-the-layman. In major supporting roles are names well known in the Egyptian Arabian breeding community: Scott Benjamin Anita Enander Omar Sakr Marilyn Lang David Gardner Judy Guess Brandon Bryan Jennifer Parsons Martha Lucas Becky Rogers Jody Cruz Synopsis and Review Sub-titled "Building-blocks for Contemporary Egyptian Arabian Breeding," BACK TO THE FUTURE 2010 not only brings into focus principles, practices and tools for Egyptian Arabian breeding along with illustrative historic and contemporary models for Egyptian Arabian breeding. It also profiles the critical issues facing breeders in a fast-changing environment. The format for the conference includes both formal presentations, panel discussions, case-studies and opportunities for structured and informal discussion. BACK TO THE FUTURE calls on an array of presenters to target present-day breeding programs of some duration, representing a range of goals. A panel to explore the variety of motives and goals that are typical of breeders large and small opens the way for a series of structured case-studies of successful Egyptian Arabian breeding programs. Each case-study covers a basic set of basic and up-to-the moment topics to facilitate comparison/contrast between and among breeding programs. Case-study sessions are scheduled concurrently; each session repeated twice, giving attendees the opportunity to attend more than one study session. BACK TO THE FUTURE is a challenging learning opportunity. Attendees will want time to "process" information. Therefore structured opportunities for Presenter/Participant "Talk-Back,"and a mechanism for the review, critique and reflection on the content of sessions is in place. As for earlier conferences, a Resource Notebook has been compiled. With strong introductory materials and a study guide for each section, the Notebook could stand on its own and serve as a personal study manual or as a point of reference for group study The closing session will focus on perspectives not often profiled among Egyptian breeders, drawing on resources from abroad and beyond our membership. The National Breeders Conferences have enjoyed critical and "box-office" success in the past and rank among the most sought-after benefits of membership for Pyramid Society members! BACK TO THE FUTURE 2010 continues that tradition! MARK YOUR CALENDARS! RESERVATION FORMS COMING SOON!
