JRs Nabiel Shaikh’s Ancestors Featured in Bahraini Book
A friend of mine gave me a book that was given out at the Kingdom of Bahrain's tent at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. Bahrain was the only country to host its own tent at the Games, reflecting the deep interest of its ruler, King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa, in equine endurance competition. The book, “The Legend: The Story of an Arabian Bahraini Bay Mare: An influence in USA.” by Mahmood A. Ahmed Hasan, is a handsomely illustrated book on Arabian horses and features the story of Bint El Bahreyn.
Bint El Bahreyn is a Dahmad Shahwaniyah mare bred by Rais Issa Ibn Khalifah of Bahrain and imported in 1903 to Egypt as a gift for Khedive Abbas II and was later purchased in 1907 by Lady Anne Blunt for Sheykh Obeyd Stud, Egypt. Two important descendants of Bint el Bahrein were *Bint Maisa El Sahira (Nazeer x Maisa) and Madkour (*Morafic x Maisa). *Bint Maisa El Saghira came to the US and founded a dynasty through her sons, Shaikh Al Badi and *Shamruk++.
Our JRs Nabiel Shaikh, straight Egyptian Shaikh Al Badi 2 year old granddaughter’s, female tail strain goes to Bint El Bahreyn thru *Soheir II (although she contains this strain thru her grandsire’s female tail as well). JRs Nabiel Shaikh contains everything that Bint El Bahreyn was known as – “a substancial mare, excellent conformation, tremendous rear-end and a ‘flying machine’ and a beautiful, unmistakenly ‘Arabian’.”
