DESERT ARABIANS SUCCEED AT TEVIS 100-MILE RIDE

In what may be a record, 4 Desert Arabians completed the 100-Mile
Western States Trail Ride (the "TEVIS") on July 24; two were in the
TOP 10. Finishers, in order:

Claire Godwin, DVM with EH Ahmose, Straight Egyptian, 1999 gelding
(PRI Asali Halim x EH Nagidah). This is the fourth year of endurance
competition for the pair. They were Region 15 100-mile champions in
2009.

Crockett Dumas with OT Dytu RSI, Egyptian with Rabanna, 1999 mare
(Drkumo RSI x Dytatu RSI). Crockett and "Tu" frequently compete in XP
multi-day rides and have more than 4,000 AERC miles. They won the AERC
"War Mare" Award and the Institute's "Drinkers of the Wind" Award in
2008.

Nicole Smith with Ravenwood Shahbar, Straight Egyptian, 1998 gelding
(Ravenwood IbnMone x *Bint Gabbara). Nicole, who has over 1200 AERC
miles, recently purchased Shahbar from Ken Keele, who rode Shahbar to
the AHA National 50-mile Championship in 2009.

Dave Rabe with Ravenwood Mosham, Straight Egyptian, 1995 gelding (RG
Al Mone x Masshama). This is their fourth completion of 100-mile
rides. Mosham has 1770 AERC miles.

Other finishers on half-arabs with significant Desert Arabian
influence were:

Laura Yost with OT El Din RSI - 7/8 Egyptian-Rabanna

Gentry Yost with OT Moniet Oleta RSI - 3/4 Egyptian-Rabanna

The Yosts rode as a family, with son Chandler completing his second
Tevis as a Junior.

Karen Deaver got her completion with half-arab Simeon Shai-Zam, 2000
gelding (Simeon Prince x grade mare). Simeon Prince is Desert Arabian
son of Simeon Shai+ (x NS Bisharah).

Finishing with her was Mindy Wolfe with half-arab Thee Outlaws Splash,
2001 mare (Thee Outlaw x APHA mare). Thee Outlaw is a Straight
Egyptian stallion.

Ken Keele began the ride on his new horse, Ravenwood Teyyal, Straight
Egyptian, but withdrew at the 64-mile mark.

We congratulate these riders, horses, breeders, and crew who work
together on this very difficult ride.
