Black Stallion Literacy Program Coming to Kentucky!

The Black Stallion Literacy Foundation's Black Stallion Literacy Program continues to grown, sharing the magic of horses with children through Walter Farley's adventurous stories.

First and fourth graders throughout the country are falling in love with horses! This is happening through the timeless adventures of Alec and his legendary Black Stallion as children are given this classic novel to keep forever through the Black Stallion Literacy Program. In addition to receiving this hard back book to keep forever, children are invited on a field trip near their school to see the world class Arabian Nights equestrian show from Kissimmee, Florida. This innovative reading program is taught in the schools encouraging children to know the joy of reading for pleasure, encouraging a higher level of education. This year the program hopes to share books with over 75,000 children.

First graders are given two books about horses by Walter Farley and are treated to two horse encounters, where they meet the characters in their new books. They are given their first book when horses visit their school. Excitement begins with the first visit and continues when they venture to a horse facility where they learn about caring for a horse, and then read to a horse!

Laura Graves, Founder of the Black Stallion Literacy Program is thrilled to share that the program will be offered in new venues in 2010 including the home of The Pyramid Society, Lexington, KY! Mollie Jameson, with the support of the Kentucky Horse Park are hosting fourth graders and their show by the Arabian Nights will be May 11th at the new coliseum in the Kentucky Horse Park.

Several states offer the first and fourth grade programs including Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Texas. Colorado offers the first grade program and all need your support. You can make a difference in a child's life, giving them the gift that truly lasts a lifetime, the gift of reading. They just may fall in love with your Arabian horse along the way.

We invite yo uto become part of this exciting adventure where children and horses come together to encourage education and just perhaps sparks that interest in horses.
