EGYPTIANS EXCEL AT THE 2004 SALON DU CHEVAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Straight Egyptian and Egyptian-sired Arabians performed exceptionally well at this year’s World Championships, proving once again why this blood is so highly valued by breeders around the world. Of the eight total World Champion and Reserve titles
awarded, two were Straight Egyptian, two were Egyptian-sired, and two others were sired by an Egyptian-sired stallion.

Our congratulations to the 2004 World Champion Mare Loubna (Imperial Imdal x Imperial Kalatifa) bred by Pyramid Society Members Ariela Arabians of Israel and co-owned by Ariela and Portsdown Arabians of the U.K. Loubna was a vision of the refinement, type, and ethereal beauty for which Egyptian Arabians are prized. Of the other Top Ten Mares, the lovely Emira (Laheeb x Embra) is Egyptian-sired and is bred and owned by the Michalow Stud of Poland.

Congratulations also to Pyramid Society members Imperial Egyptian Stud whose Imperial Baarez (PVA Kariim x BB Ora Kalilah) was named Reserve World Champion Stallion. This elegant stallion and proven sire has garnered countless fans during his time in Europe and was wildly cheered by the crowds in Paris. Imperial Egyptian Stud has many reasons to be proud, as the World Champion Mare Loubna also represents their highly respected breeding program.

In the extremely competitive World Champion Stallion class, the victor was the typey and charismatic Eternity Ibn Navarrone, an Egyptian-sired stallion by former Egyptian Event Champion and Reserve World Champion Ansata Sinan. Eternity Ibn Navarrone is owned by Martine and Paul Despeghel Van Hee of Belgium. Another stallion in the Top Ten, the beautiful former World Champion Hlayyil Ramadan (Kamar Al Zaman x Haboub) is also Egyptian-sired and is owned by HRH Princess Alia bint Hussein of Jordan.

Straight Egyptian and Egyptian-sired fillies dominated the class for Junior World Champion. The unanimous winner was the spectacular Pianissima owned and bred by the Janow Podlaski Stud of Poland. Her sire, Gazal al Shaqab, a former World Champion and Egyptian Event Supreme Champion, is Egyptian-sired. The Reserve World Champion Filly is the Egyptian-sired Sundos al Nasser. A daughter of Ashhal al Rayyan, she is proudly owned by Sheikh Ammar bin Hamaidi of the United Arab Emirates.

Other Top Ten Fillies included the Straight Egyptian Frasera Mashara, sired by Egyptian Event Reserve Champion Stallion, Shahil, out of MB Madora. This charming filly is bred and owned by La Frasera of Italy. Pyramid Laheya is another straight Egyptian filly, which was named Top Ten. She is sired by Al Lahab and out of Pyramid Set el Nil and is owned by Jürgen Wagner of Germany. Another Ashhal al Rayyan daughter, the Egyptian-sired Athenaa also garnered Top Ten honors. She is owned by the partnership of Delyth Gamlin and Mrs. C. Ratcliffe, UK.

The winning World Junior Champion colt, Nijem Ibn Eternity is a son of the Egyptian-sired World Champion Stallion, Eternity Ibn Navarrone. He is owned by Perfect Arabians of Sweden. Another Top Ten in the colt division was the Straight Egyptian GR Amarid (Pasha Farid x Halims Asmara) bred by Erwin and Annette Escher and owned by Geneen Joseph of France.

Congratulations in particular to member farms Imperial Egyptian Stud and Ariela Arabians. We are so proud of the accomplishments of all the Egyptian blood represented at this year’s World Championships in Paris.

THREE EGYPTIAN STALLIONS LAID TO REST
Straight Egyptian stallion, Farid Nile Moon (Anaza El Farid x GA Moon Tajhalima), owned by Al Qasimi Stables of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, was recently laid to rest after an extensive battle with colic. Farid Nile Moon was the 2001 Egyptian Event Supreme Champion Stallion and was bred by Karen Henwood and Ron Shimer of Sandybrook Egyptian Arabians located in Ocala, Florida. Equine enthusiasts from around the world adored this 1997 bay stallion because of his exotic beauty and type. In the showring, Farid Nile Moon's sweet disposition and charming personality captivated spectators. He was shown just a few times in the UAE, but won Most Classic as well as Reserve Championships to some of the finest horses in the Middle East. He was very respected there as well as in Europe. Farid Nile Moon's legacy lives on only through a limited number of offspring. Our condolences to Sandybrook Farm and Al Qasimi Stabes for the loss of this magnificent stallion.

Karen Henwood and Ron Shimer also experienced another heartbreaking loss. Karen and Ron's beloved 22-year-old straight Egyptian stallion, Asata Abu Halim (Ansata Ibn Halima x Ansata Damietta) died peacefully on November 18th of heart failure. "Abu" was bred by Judi and Don Forbis of Ansata Arabian Stud in Mena, Arkansas. Abu was one of a very few Ansata Ibn Halima sons left in the world. In addition to being the sire of several lovely mares, "Abu" was a friend and clown, as well as a beloved pet.

The Egyptian Arabian community also lost another great stallion recently. Straight Egyptian and star of The Young Black Stallion, Thee Cyclone (Thee Desperado x The Minuet), owned by Jack and Fanie Maritz, was laid to rest in South Africa. Thee Cyclone was a 1994 bay stallion bred by Frank and Pat Bradish of Twin Hickory Arabians located in Kingsville, Ohio. Thee Cyclone starred in Disney’s “The Young Black Stallion” and was influential in introducing the world to the beauty of the Egyptian Arabian horse. Our condolences to the Maritzes and Twin Hickory Arabians for the loss of this important stallion.

MEMBER FARM TO BE FEATURED ON SEVERAL TELEVISION STATIONS
Soon Pyramid Society members Lee and Suzy Foss will have the opportunity to do something few others have had the chance to do: charm the world with Egyptian Arabians through the magic of television. In June 2004, Gold Creek Arabians located in Hamilton, Montana hosted Rural Farm Development Television, The Horse Channel, and Comcast Sports Southeast as they taped footage for the show, “Horse Babies”. What was scheduled to be a 15-minute segment quickly became an entire half hour show as the film crew, who had been referred to Gold Creek Arabians by Harley Delano of Aralia Arabians, quickly realized the versatility of Egyptian Arabian horses! The show, which is slated to air this coming March to over 22 million viewers, will feature TC Moniet’s Legacy and many of his offspring. These Egyptians will be seen working cattle, swimming in the Foss’ pond, and training with the Parelli’s Natural Horsemanship methods.
