The Pyramid Society Participates in "Hats Off to the
Horse Industry" at the Kentucky Horse Park
“Hats Off to the Horse Industry”, hosted by the Kentucky Horse Park
Foundation,
took place in Lexington, Kentucky, on Saturday, August 19, 2006. The
activity was created as a way to expose families in and around
central Kentucky to horses of all breeds and the impact they have on
life in Kentucky. As part of the activities, members of the National
Horse Center were invited to hand out information about their
organization and the horses they represent. The Pyramid Society was
represented by staff members Kari Bond and Beth Garrity. With 5,000
attendees, “Hats Off to the Horse Industry” was an
overwhelming
success for not only the Horse Park, but also for The Pyramid
Society.
In an effort to
reach out to families in the area, The Pyramid Society offered
several Arabian horse coloring sheets that contained Pyramid Society
website and other contact information; beautiful publications
including the Stallion Guide and Pyramid Reports; information on the
Black Stallion Literacy Project; and child oriented fliers from the
Arabian Horse Association. Additionally, visitors entered to win one
of three prize drawings: an “Exclusively Egyptian” prize pack
containing several Pyramid Society reference materials; an “Egyptian
Youth”
pack that contained a t-shirt, stickers, and more; and a drawing for
a copy of the Volume XI Reference Handbook of Straight Egyptian
Horses, to be released this October.
In addition to
being held in conjunction with the Rood & Riddle Grand Prix,
“HatsOff” also offered visitors pony rides, a parade of breeds,
horse shoe painting, a Best of the West show, horse drawn carriage
rides, and many more activities all geared toward family fun with
horses.

Recap of the 2006
Egyptian Event
From June 5 – 10, 2006 The Pyramid Society hosted the 26th
Annual Egyptian Event at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington,
Kentucky. Attendees from all over the
world joined in the celebration and festivities that took place
throughout the week.
As Event surveys begin to roll in
we can honestly and accurately say that the 2006 Egyptian Event was
a huge success. Members across the country seem to agree that
formatting changes that took place this year greatly enhanced the
feel of the Event as a celebration of the Egyptian Arabian horse.
One Event attendee and forum-poster on
StraightEgyptians.com summed up the sentiment well by
saying, “I thought this year’s show was absolutely flawless, the
attendees were extremely positive and upbeat, everyone felt a part
of something exciting, the social events and seminars [were]
completely fun and rewarding…in other words a great time was had by
all, AND we had perfect weather! Congratulations to all the
breeders for a superb turnout!”
We
asked members to let us know their favorite things about the
Egyptian Event, and as usual, have received a wide variety of
answers. Some notable mentions were seeing friends, the private
treaty sale, Wednesday night’s Stallion Showcase and Social, and the
Welcome Breakfast. Our favorite answer though, “Winning!” Well, we
can’t blame you there! Many activities drew positive reviews- from
the seminars to the Egyptian Breeders’ Challenge, which we are
pleased to announce broke the previous payout record. Winnings for
2009 are expected to exceed $80,000!
We also want to give a heartfelt
“Thank you” for all of your honesty, suggestions, and compliments.
Having the opportunity to work for our members and know that you
appreciate what we do is our greatest incentive. For more
highlights of the 2006 Egyptian Event, complete results, and

Early Findings
from the Membership Survey
Many of you have taken the time to share your thoughts with us
through the 2006 Membership Survey. We are delighted with your
candor and compliments, and what better way to say “Thank You” than
by sharing with you some early findings. Based on early feedback,
on average, each Pyramid Society member owns 5 straight Egyptian
Arabians and 3 additional horses. We are also pleased to know
that 96% of members plan on renewing their membership for 2007, and
most will do so because of dedication to the preservation and
promotion of the breed. The top four most valuable programs and
services we offered were considered exposure at the Egyptian Event,
the Membership Directory, and the access to networking effectively.
When asked about the website, most members say they visit it about
once or twice a month and that they are visiting it more often than
in previous years. Based on our web hits, which exceeded 295,000 in
June, it is clear that in addition to Pyramid Society members
accessing the web more often, enthusiasts from all over the world
are doing so as well. The most requested additions to the website
were free farm advertising and links to member farms. Well, we are
pleased to inform you that both of these exist through the
Online Membership
Directory. All Pyramid Society members are listed
complimentary according to region and state and we include either a
link to the farm’s website or e-mail address!

MAJID ALSAYEGH ELECTED AS
NEWEST MEMBER OF THE BOARD
At the August board meeting, the Board of Directors elected The
Pyramid Society’s newest Board Member, Majid Alsayegh. Majid, who
was born and spent his youth in Iraq, now lives in Douglassville,
PA, and owns Al Majid Arabians. Majid has been a Pyramid Society
member since 1999 but purchased his first straight Egyptian in 1990.
Majid
is pictured here with his favorite horse, Imperial Safemaa (*Ibn
Safinaz x Negmaa), whom he finds particularly appealing for her
ethereal beauty, great athleticism, and interminable gentleness. She
reminds him of her grandsire, Ansata Ibn Halima, as she moves about
the pasture.
As a board
member, Majid would like to increase activities on a regional level
and raise the involvement of members in The Pyramid Society.
Additionally, he is looking forward to supporting the current
education effort in The Society as well as the use of straight
Egyptians in performance.
Mahatma Gandhi
one said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” and this,
Majid feels, is the motto which most closely represents his
perspective on life. When not spending time with his Egyptian
Arabians, Majid is deeply committed to nurturing the understanding
between people of different cultures. He works with the group
Intercultural Journey’s to use music and the arts to teach those in
conflict to be more tolerant of and compassionate towards those with
whom turmoil exists. Please help us welcome Majid Alsayegh as our
newest member of the Board of Directors.
