TOM MCNAIR TO RECEIVE
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Tom McNair, a longtime supporter and promoter of the Egyptian
Arabian horse, has been chosen as the 2005 recipient of the Arabian
Professional and Amateur Horseman’s Association Lifetime Achievement
Award. The award, graciously underwritten by several Egyptian
breeders, will be presented on Sunday evening, February 27th, as
part of the APAHA's ceremonies in Scottsdale. Tom's tremendous show
ring successes with the horses of Gleannloch Farms helped change the
history of the Egyptian Arabian in the United States. On behalf of
The Pyramid Society - and everyone who owns or loves Egyptian
Arabians - a genuine and heart-felt "Congratulations and Thank You,
Tom".

Arabian Community Joins the Tsunami Relief Effort
We have all watched in horror the disaster of almost biblical
proportions that has taken place as a result of the tsunami in Asia.
The plight of the children who have lost parents, siblings and the
sense of security that family and home can give to them has been
especially poignant. In light of this, members of the Arabian horse
community on both sides of the Atlantic have come together and
decided to hold an online stallion service auction. These auctions
will be held separately but are part of the same relief effort.
Of course, we were dependent on the generosity of Arabian stallion
owners to make
this
a successful event. Thus far, the response from those contacted has
exceeded our expectations and there will be some wonderful stallions
in the auction including several Egyptian Arabians. These will
include horses that for most of us are household names and some
which will only be available to the public through this venue. 100%
of the funds collected will go to the Save The Children
organization. Their website address is
www.savethechildren.org.
These funds will be placed in an escrow account to be released to
the above charity. We have the potential to raise over 100,000
dollars to support these efforts and is a wonderful thing for us do
as a community.
These are some of the
Amazing Stallions that will be Available.
We thank the owners for their generosity.

JANUARY 2005 BOARD
MEETING UPDATES
JARI DRASSAL ELECTED TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
We are pleased to announce that
Jari Drassal has been elected to serve the remainder of Karen
Henwood’s unexpired term as a Pyramid Society Board Member. Jari and
her husband, Ron, have two children, Brooke and Alycia, and own Chez
Moi Arabians located in Stillwater, Minnesota. In 1985, as they
started their farm, Jari and Ron visited breeders of Spanish,
Polish, Russian, Crabbet, and Egyptian Arabians. They were easily
won over by the Egyptian Arabians and built their breeding program
with them. In 1989, Jari and Ron became Pyramid Society members and
in 1992 attended their first Egyptian Event. There they were
captivated by the beauty of both the Kentucky Horse Park and the
versatility they saw in the Egyptian Arabian. Jari brings to the
Board a great understanding of and dedication to the Egyptian
Arabian horse. As a family, the Drassals have participated in
several disciplines including halter, performance, liberty, and
endurance. As well, Jari served as the committee chair for the very
successful Minnesota Fall Fest and Medallion Stallion program for
many years. Her experience in so many areas, as well as her warm and
positive disposition will certainly lend to her success on the
Board. As a Board Member, Jari hopes to help attract more visitors
to the Egyptian Event by showing them that Egyptians are a desirable
choice over other breeds for first time owners, as well as showing
Arabian owners that Egyptians are not only beautiful but also
capable of succeeding in many disciplines.

PERFORMANCE PYRAMID
ELIMINATED
The Performance Pyramid was created in 1999 as an incentive to
participate in performance classes at the Egyptian Event. Feeling
confident that big bucks would provide this necessary incentive, the
Board guaranteed a hefty $10,000 payback to the Top Three High Point
Horses. It was simple, it was inexpensive to participate, and it was
expected to draw large numbers of entrants. It did not. In 2000 and
2001 this amount was again guaranteed, participation rules
broadened, and entry fees lowered, in hopes of making it more
appealing and, therefore, self-sustaining. By 2002, it had proven
not to be the case and by this time individual underwriters were
unwilling to continue funding it to this level. However, still
hoping to make it work, a $6,000 pot was guaranteed in 2003 and a
top performance clinician provided her services complementary to all
Performance Pyramid participants. She was excellent and joined us
again in 2004. Despite these repeated attempts by the Board and the
Performance Pyramid Committee to make this program self-funding, the
number of participants continued to decline. Therefore, the Pyramid
Society Board voted at its January 2005 board meeting to discontinue
the program. Please note: All of the performance classes will still
be included as part of the 2005 Event schedule. We repeat, no
performance classes have been deleted. This simply means, like all
of the other classes at the Event, payouts will be based on the
level of participation in each of the respective classes. A huge
debt of gratitude is owed to both individuals and board members who
continued to underwrite the Performance Pyramid Program throughout
its entire existence.

EGYPTIAN HORSE DAY IN MAY
Egyptian Horse Day in May is back again! This exciting outreach
program targets the public and local media by unifying Pyramid
Society members across the nation. Members will sponsor, at their
farms, a special day of education, fun, and opportunity to meet the
Egyptian Arabian horse. “Meet us in May for Egyptian Horse Day—Join
us in June at the Egyptian Event” is the slogan and press releases
will be sent to local media to promote this activity. Regional
representatives are challenged to help organize and develop this
concept within their region.
Saturday, May
14th is the chosen date, however other dates in May can also be
selected to suit an individual or group’s needs. Regardless,
everyone is encouraged to target May l4th to take advantage of press
releases and overall unity, date, and purpose. As in the past, if
you plan to sponsor an Egyptian Horse Day activity, please contact
The Pyramid Society so we can help get the word out and send you
promotional materials.
