kAREN aNEIRO

   2008 Donation By Karen Aneiro

The Pyramid Society is pleased to introduce Karen Aneiro as a new artist. While Karen is a first time donating-artist to the Egyptian Event, she is not a newcomer to the Straight Egyptian Arabian. Since 1991 Karen and her husband Rob have owned and bred Straight Egyptian Arabians at their farm EquiSea in Barhamsville, VA. The Pyramid Society is excited to offer her exquisite work at the Egyptian Event this year.

Karen had the following to say regarding her work:
“My third word (after Mommy and Daddy) was horse.  While born in Brooklyn, New York—far from the country—horses were always special to me. We later moved to suburban New Jersey, where my childhood revolved around horses….especially barrel-racing and long rides on the Red Dot Trail.   Horses gave me the world—while the shows were grand, the bond I shared with my equine friends was the greatest gift! But growing up has a way of changing childhood dreams—and soon I was on my own and horseless…

In college I pursued my life-long interests in art; studying painting, photography, textiles, printmaking and majoring in sculpture.  Following degrees in Fine Art I obtained a Masters in Museum Education.  In graduate school I learned additional artistic skills, including bronze casting.  Horses appeared frequently in my works. After graduating, I took a position as an exhibit artist at The Florida Museum of Natural History. There I had the privilege of working with many talented artists and fusing my interests in art, nature and education. As horses came alive on canvases and sculptures, I realized that they lived in my soul.  So my life was again filled with horses… I was especially drawn to Arabians.  Their fairytale beauty and breathtaking history captured my imagination and came alive in my art!

Maturity leads to understanding—and I recognize now that while growing up is inevitable—childhood dreams are important.   These dreams led me back to horses…and I now share my life with beautiful Egyptian Arabian and Dutch Friesian horses (& Llamas!) and couldn’t be happier.  Today, my work remains strongly influenced by horses and historical artifacts.  While my works have garnered awards at regional and international exhibits, my greatest joy comes from people enjoying the art”.
