Rhonda was encouraged by her doctors to get back
into her art passion, as therapy during the grieving of her younger
sister’s death in 2006. “It was the right kind of ‘medicine’. I even
started getting requests from co-workers, family, friends, etc., to
create new pieces of art. A major turning point in my art and life
was when my boss’s wife commissioned a painting to be used in her
horse club’s national fundraising event. It was such a huge success
for that club and gave me courage to contact The Pyramid Society
about being a part of their Art Auction. I’ve always admired and
envied the artists who donated their incredible art to this Event.
Once I agreed to participate in the 2007 Auction, the pressure was
really on!”
“I wanted to create something ‘different’, yet
‘relate-able’. I love using different surfaces to paint on, so I
chose an old glass window as my base, adding a 2nd layer of glass
for dimensions/depth. I also wanted to honor my sister and her young
son, therefore creating “Little Man”...using the Arabian horse(s) to
depict family love and unity was an easy theme choice. But, knowing
that my art was going up in front of such knowledgeable people was
creating a lot of stress, and caused me to paint up to the last
minute before shipping it out; a hard lessen learned!”
All in all, my painting of “Little Man” was well
received and quite successful at the 2007 Art Auction. Plus, knowing
that it was purchased by a prominent breeder/supporter of the
Arabian horse added to my elevated pride of realizing a personal
dream!”
Rhonda has been encouraged by her friends/family and
The Pyramid Society to create another painting for the 2008 Art
Auction. With the great success of last year’s piece the pressure is
on to do as good or better as her beloved “Little Man”. However,
according to Rhonda, “nothing will ever compare to that painting, as
it will always be dear to my heart.”
“I shall be forever grateful to my
doctors, friends/family and especially my boss’s wife...helping me
to get through a very difficult time in my life and for motivating
my passion for art again. My sorrow has been given “meaning”...thank
you.” |
