Brazilian
sculptor Auri Alberto Borsatto's work is frequently inspired by
Egyptian Arabian horses. he creates in his Sao Paulo studio,
sculptures that are especially lifelike and evocative. His
primary material of choice is wood, and like many other artists, he
seems to coax his subjects out of the material, as if the image
already existed there, unrevealed.
"It has been 24
years since I received some tecnicas from a sculptor who passed
through my city and I began to create high relief artwork in wood,"
Borsatto explains. "Seven years later I began to make three
dimensional sculpture, and horses were my source of greatest
inspiration. When I started working with my own technique,
consulting only photographs, I had difficulty, so I learned to
measure the horses' proper proportions, go information from
trainers, owners and breeders and gained more understanding of the
horses' conformation. In 1993 I displayed my work for the
first time at the National Brazilian Show."
Today, Borsatto is vice president
of the Board of Culture of the City of Navirai MS, Brazil, and
vice president of the Association of Craftsman and Plastic Artists
of Navirai. He has received "Premio" awards throughout Brazil.
"Some of my famous customers are Henry & Christie Metz, Carol
Steppe, Robert and Dixie North, Shirley and Charlie Watts, David
Boggs, Greg Gallun, Greg Hazelwood, Greg Knowles, Steve Heathcott,
Ron and Judy Schmid, Claudio Cristiani, Fernando de Santibanes,
Walter Mishek, Don and Janey Morse, Luciano Cury, Joao Sorvilo and
many other," he says proudly. He will be bringing two wood
sculptures to the 2007 Egyptian Event: a full-body sculpture
adn a bust of an Arabian horse. Borsatto himself may be at the
2007 Event as well. He speaks very little English, but his
beautiful artistic creations speak volumes.
